Mason Jar Organizer

Wow, its been awhile!  I've been busy.  I thought I would post something I created for our booth, a Mason jar desk organizer.

I found 3 of these jars at a flea market but they did not have the wire part to hold the glass lid on. I knew I could use the lids on other jars so I bought them. The wire basket I got at a yard sale a couple of weeks later, not even thinking about putting the jars in it.  Well, sometimes good ideas just happen! I added some jute like twine to the area on the jars where the holes were for the wire.
This could also be used to hold silverware, sewing supplies.....ect....

By the way the Booth is going great, and that's why I haven't had time to post along with Christmas and Life!
Have a Great New Year!

Sock Monkey

Today at a yard sale I got a free sock monkey!  After looking around at the yard sale I decides notheing was there for me as I was leaving the lady said, check out the free boxes and take somethig home with you.  I stopped and looked just being polite, there under a bunch of normal stuffed animal was this sock monkey, I pulled him out and the lady said his ear needs fixed, do you sew? I said yes I do, the hole was behind his ear and only about an inch long. She also said her soon was afraid of him, I find that funny cause I hate monkeys too! But sock monkeys are fun!
Can you find all the subtle changes I made to him?

1. I took off both ears, took some of the stuffing out and repostioned them on his head.
2. I used the excess stuffing from the ears to put in the hat.
3. Made his neck more defined by adding a tighter yarn.
4. took a pompom off his belly and added it to his arm, he was missing his right arm pompom.and repotioned them higher on his arm.
5. And the most subtle of a change was trimming all his pompoms!

Belt Chair

Here is a chair that I used old belts to weave a new seat.
A friend of mine got some ladies together one afternoon and showed us how to put it all together!
I want to do more, it is fun collecting the belts and weaving them!
They are buckeled underneath, some had to get neww holes in them and extra length was cut off.

Giving New Life to An Old Frame

I saw this on pinterest too. I used wire then covered it with coffee stained cheesecloth.
And added a cheesecloth bow and rusty heart.

Tiny clothes pins hold the photos.

I first measured about 4 1/2 inches and put in the nails. Used some wire I had, wound it around the nails to make little washlines! Then wrapped them with the cheesecloth.

I hot glued some pieces of cheesecloth over the nails so it won't scratch the wall.
I think it would be idea for family photos, or even a collection of senior photos, or even vintage valentines in feb.  Happy Junkin!

Shipping Box

I found this at a yard sale, at first I thought it was a suitcase. When I opened it it didn't have a hinge and the top just lifted off and it had stamps in the one metal bracket and was made of heabt cardboard. I didn't see the staps right away, then I did dome research and determined it was a shipping box. It is now in our booth!

Ruler Star and Doily Banner

I have made yardstick stars and stars made and from the folding kind, this one is from a set of matching rulers. Just drilled holes in the ends and wired them together.

Loving all the lettering!

I am sure many of you have seen doily banners before, I ran across abunch at yardsales and started creating them for the booth.  These are rather small doilies and they look great at windows!

I have more of the embroidered kind which I find more fun and interesting.

Or you can hand from pegs from a shelf too.
I want to use one to decorate an old suitcase too! Possibilities are endless!!

Easter Eggs the Junkin Way!

I found instructions for natural dye on the web and just wanted to add a bit of color to my hard boiled eggs. Then added lace string ric rac and various junkin supplies and embellished them.
(It may look like tea in the cup but it is the dye I used)

A cameo fit just perfectly on the egg that had a oval on it from sitting in the dye. An earring and scrapbook embellishment key! Other things used were buttons and flowers, endless possibilities also wood or other eggs could be used.

Still have time to do some fun eggs for Easter!

Old Purse with Old Photo

This is my own spin on a post I found on pintrest.

The one on pinterest had many purses on a wall with baby's breath in the purse.
I had this purse for years and have used it for holding Christmas cards and hung it on a doorknob.
The lace frame I got at a yard sale for a dollar, this has been in the living room since I bought it just sitting or hanging around.

I bought a couple of frames recently at a thrift store sale for this project but I went to my stash of frames and found this one I liked better. Added a vintage photo, also from my stash. the frame is velcroed on so I can take it off and change the pic, added a hankie from my collection and a key.

I started to take the pics for the blog and decided I needed to add something below the purse, looked around the room and found a cardboard clock face and just added a doughnut of tape to the back and tada!

Quick and oh so easy!

since I like phtotography I icluded different effects of the same pic.

The last one is my fav, which do you like?

Junkin for the Birds

I found this idea on pinterest and was a fun little project to use up odd bits of yarn for birds to build their nests nice and cozy! I wrapped the yarn around my hand and then cut it off at the top and bottom this made about 4 inch strips.
I had this wire thing I got free out of a free box at a yard sale, it looks like a pocketbook it probably had gift hand lotion in it at one time.  I believe the one on pinterest used a suet bird feeder, so if you have some scrap yarn look around your junk stash and see if you can find something that you can use, all it needs is holes for the birds to pick their favorite color and something for the birds to hold on to.
I did add some spanish moss in the bottom jsut cause I had it also raffia could be used for a more natural materials.I used more yarn to tie it to a tree near a window, hoping to see some birdies make a visit!

Old Sweater to Hats Plus a Flower

These 2 hats were made from a sweater I could no longer wear.
There was nothing wrong with the sweater, it just didn't fit anymore.
And I needed a white hat!
I wanted to keep the buttons with one of the hats.
So, I just placed the row of buttons on the side of my head where I wanted them to be when wearing the hat and measured by holding it tightly on my head like a hat should fit and held it till I took it off and marked it. I just so happened to be exactly half of the bottom of the sweater, so I could make 2 hats from this sweater.   I measured the length I wanted from another hat. I sewed up the seam that will be in the back with a zigzag stitch, trying not to stretch the sweater for a flatter seam. Then using a heavy thread I gathered with a running stitch and to secure the top sewed in and out several times.  I also zigzagged the edge that was tucked inside the hat. An over lock machine or serger would work if you have one.
The second hat, made the same way till I got to the zigzag stitching on the top edge of the hat, this I stretched as I sewn to make it more ruffly. Then sewed and secured the top with heavy thread.
At the same time I was making the hats I was making this flower so I combined them to make it a little different!
The flower was made from 5 silk flowers I had in my stash, like the one on the left. I took the plastic parts off and only used the silk part and hot glued them together and added a vintage button to the center.
You can do so many things with this type of flower, pin, broach, headband, necklace,
package decoration and on and on!!
Now what to do with the remaining part of the sweater!
Well anyway, this is a great project for a mother and daughter hats
with or without the flower!

Photo Personalized Greeting Cards

I like to use my photos as much as possible so some time I can find a card I can use for that purpose.
This id a finished card that I made for our daughters birthday over a year ago. I took this photo when she was about 2 years old.
I found this card and it reminded me of the above photo
So I made a copy of it on photo paper and trimmed it to size
( see first pic for finished card )

Another one I did was this Thank you card,
this one I made the photo a wallet size before printing.

Tape Measure Bracelet

I have seen and admired these tape measure bracelets for a couple of years now and finally figured out a way to make one without the toggle findings.
I used black elastic cording I had laying around and tied it in a square knot, it is hidden in the fold over of the end of the tape measure. I sewed the end and measured around my wrist, left an inch or so and cut it off. then folded and sewed down the other end.  I'm sure you could glue down the ends and use a small ponytail elastic band if you wanted to.

I then went to my button stash and found 3 that went together and sewed them on and added some glue too.

Sew Simple!
