Mens Shirt to Apron

I found this idea on pinterest and did my own little twist. I suded aMens shirt and cut it up the side and from the bottom of the underarm cut it diagonally up to the back of the collar and rolled the edge over slightly and sewed it sown.

The fun part was adding my twist with buttons and an applique I had in my stash

I sewed the front part down and replaced the shirt buttons with other from my collection!

The ties were cut from the back of the shirt and sewn on where the side seam met the underarm.

I used a mainly white shirt cause I like to bake. I also think this would be great for a woman/man who likes to grill, I can see this made from a denium shirt.

Our Old Car

Almost 2 years ago we bought this car, these pics were taken at a near by bowling alley and eatery!

It looks good in the pics but still need some work, the interior is the worst. My dream is to get a vintage camping trailer to go along with it! Not really junk, but I thought you might like to see it! I just love the color! I will have to post some other vintage fun finds that go with the car sometime!

Baby Headbands

Last year before Christmas, I was asked to help find vintage baby items for a baby shower for my cousins daughter. More on that with the last pic.
So I wanted to do something fun for the baby gift, they were posting baby pics they liked on facebook mostly all with baby headbands. So I looked on etsy for inspiration and created some.

This is my fav! I bought some headbands at a retail store and took off their decoration to add mine. Made torn fabric roses from muslin, lots of tutorials on the web. added a piece of vintage veiling I had from a vintage hat I got at a yard sale and a feather!

This one I bought the ribbon it had wire in it and I took it out the one side and hand sewed a gathering stitch and coiled it around to look like a flower, glued a vintage button on it.

This Gerbera daisy I bought and took out the center plastic thingy and hand stitched the flower petals together then added a vintage button. The stretch white lace headband part was cut and made by me. I found a video tutorial to help me with this!
Some where glued directly on the headband and some were glued on a hair clip. Both I added felt to so it would be soft on the baby's head.

I found the vintage baby scale, vintage photo album,bibs, rattle, and that cute rubber toy doggie!

I also, found a cute vintage pink baby shoe planter that I put the gift in, Forgot to get a pic of it.

It's Still Christmas Time!

Well, I have been away for awhile but I have a new post and like always Iam behind the times. But I wanted to post some of the stuff I did for Christmas.

First up is frames in a frame with sheet music in the small frames that I ran thru the printer with a capital J and Y with a wreath representing the O. All were hot glued onto a wide ribbon.

Next, I saw this last year on one of the blogs I follow and I just used scrabble letters and glued magnets to the backs and since this little globe is metal. Peace On Earth

I made these last year and saw on pintrest where someone used candle sticks to elevate them.

I added a pocket watch to my Christmas tree ...

... along with golden teaspoons, I only had three but will be looking for more! Last year I had a bunch of chandelier prisms that I added too.

I wanted to do something with this beautiful coat that was my Great Aunts, so I put it on a dress form and added white accessories.
If I would have thought of this earlier I would have got some angel wings to add to it, so I will have them on my list for next year.

So, I hope everyone had a great Christmas and I hope I get around to more posting in the New Year!

Fair Winners

Hello all, I have not posted in awhile since I haven't made anything lately but I wanted to share my 2 pieces I entered in the York Fair. My window frame won a blue ribbon in the collage category.

And my canning jar lid wreath also won a blue ribbon! It was entered in the wreath category.

Last year at the fair I decided that next year I would enter some of my different "artwork" I wanted to add something that might be more interesting than the normal handicrafts, hopefully more people will enter different and unusual items.

Repurposed Glass = Cheesecake Wedding Cake

When I was asked to make a cheesecake wedding cake I had to do some research. I found some when I googled and I came up with the following idea for the cake(s) and for the display.

The glass was repurposed into cake stands in different levels. Gluing together with E6000 glue.

And now for the finished cake!

The top was regular vanilla cake, for them to keep for their first anniversary.
Cupakes in the background.

Gluten free cupcakes were requested, on their own repurposed glass stand.

Extra vanilla cake and the base cheesecake.

The wedding colors were red and blue, the flower is silk the cherries are real.

The chocolate cake with red rose and blurberries.

Cheescake cupcakes too!

With cherry and blueberry topping.

Scrap Book Paper - Just not for Scrapbooking!

I got this "spice cabinet" a couple of years ago with the intent to paint it and use it for small junk embellishments, but I never did anything with it. Then after I did another project (see below) I thought I could cover it with scrapbook paper too!

Just used Modge Podge, let dry, sanded the edges, and took some barn wood acrylic paint watered it down and stained the paper, mostly the edges to make them look old.

Now to get the junk stored in it!!

The other project I did was to cover books. I like the look of old books but sometimes you just don't have the right color books or you just want something different. Well, I found this other blog post and loved it! She used newer books, how to found here!

Used old buttons, jewelry and key to embellish!

You could use copies of old photos and re title books for a certain project or decoration for a party.

Still time this summer to pick up a book and not read it!

Memory Pillows

These pillows are made out of blouses. I was asked to create 3 pillows out of my Aunt's blouses by my cousin for her and her daughters, in memory of her Mom. I really liked how they turned out. I forgot to take a picture of the blouses but they were a casual cotton style.

This first one had an embroidered front and I cut them out in a square, I tried to make it as big as I could then cut out 2 more squares out plain blouse fabric and arranged them like quilt squares. I used the back of the blouse as the pillow back. I created yoyo's from the scraps from the 3 blouses and added them to the pillows along with the buttons.

This blouse was just a button down plain floral, I used the front of the blouse as the back of the pillow using the button down front as a way to insert the pillow form. I also repositioned the pocket on the back of the pillow to hold a memento or two. ( Forgot to take a photo)

I added a doily to the front along with more yoyos.

The third one also had an embroidered front, but wasn't square so I keep added strips of blouse fabric in a quilt like pattern so it was square.

Also added yoyos and buttons.

It was a fun project.

Sink and Sewing Base = Herb Garden

I got this sewing machine treadle base a couple of years ago at a yard sale

And the sink is from my sons first house, I had that about 6 years.

So now they each got a "New Home" as an herb garden

Sink is just sat on top, no tools required!

My Tree Man Face

Last fall I saw a tree face and was intrigued it was different than others I have seen and I wanted one. After looking online the one I wanted was lake 29 dollars and that was too much to spend. See the last pic. At a recent yard sale I purchased one or 2.50 and painted it to look more like the one I had first seen. I forgot to take before photos but found a similar one online, see below

These are 2 pics of the one I painted to blend into the tree, my brother added the stick to resemble a cigar!

Suitcase as a Wedding Card Holder

The bride to be from the bridal shower I did the cake for asked me to decorate a suitcase for her wedding guests to put their cards in at the reception, I have seen them before and recently a blog post from another blogger had a birdcage she had made for her daughters wedding.

I copied some vintage postcards from Washington DC cherry blossom festival, printed on card stock and mounted on parchment paper then tied them to vintage lace.

Used vintage pins to attach them to the lining.

And as a added bonus, I made a luggage tag, copied and printed a Mexico postcard (honeymoon destination) her soon to be last name and a vintage key.

She Loved it!

Ok I thought I would have some fun!

When I first saw Kate's dress I thought of mine. The fitted lace sleeves and lace on the upper bodice!

I designed and made my own dress 34 years ago when I was 19!

So while the top designers are rushing to make a copy of her dress I have one in the attic!

My dress cost 50 dollars! and her's 50 thousand!

I a princess for an hour, she a princess forever more!

The Making of An Apothecary Jar

I came across the making of an apothecary jar from unwanted candy jars or whatever jars you want to use. A geat repurpose, recycle project!

A candy jar with lid and a candle stick holder, glued with 6000 glue.

This one is waiting for a candle holder or other small glass item to use as a pedestal My glass vase Cloche' with a new decoration. Plus a zipper and buckle for some fun.

I just know you are going to want to make some!

Vintage Inspired Bridal Shower

My cousin contacted me a couple of months ago for ideas for her daughters bridal shower. I sent her some pics and other ideas and she gathered stuff from antiques stores to thrift shops. Many things she already had, too. So the day before the shower I went and finished arranging the tables, it was set up in her house with the living room furniture removed.

The cake sat on an old suitcase and recipes that the guests were asked to bring along were collected in a rose bowl. This table was set up in a breakfast nook as you entered in the living room.

The parasol she had and her daughter used it in her engagement photos.
She found a 1911 Ladies Home Journal cover with a bride on it.

Centerpieces were arranged around her vintage camera collection.

I wrapped the mason jars with vintage lace and used vintage pins on the front(you'll see in other photo) also used lots of doilies, gloves hankies, pearl necklaces. The BRIDE tag I made from vintage photos and in my photo shop program I added the letters to spell out bride.

She found a pair of pink gloves and a pink cherry blossom depression glass plate.

The brides theme for the wedding is pink and brown and cherry blossoms.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot I made the cake.

One last thing, the bride and groom will be getting married on my husbands and mine 34th wedding anniversary!

Recycled Jewelry Bracelets

You might remember me talking about Anthropologie, I was inspired by some bracelets I saw on their website and created two myself.
This one was a brassy colored bangle that I wrapped with a burlap type ribbon, made a flower like base and added old single post earrings, just had to use a wire cutter to cut off the post and used E6000 glue.

This one is an stretchy band sort of like a watch band, I used 3 partner less hoop earrings, a pin and a clip style single earring, the butterfly was an old stick pin.

Twenty Years Ago This Was Something Else - Yes A TV

Twenty years ago, we started building our house, and re-purposed this piece in the powder room. Yes it looks like a dry sink made into a bathroom sink but it wasn't bought as a dry sink. This was purchased new right after we were married, 34 years ago, and we used it almost every day until it broke! So does anyone have a guess to what it was?

A Junk Marriage

Valentines day inspired me to marry 2 pieces of junk items that were in my blog before and renew them again! Back in the beginning of my blog I showed the plate and candle stand made into a candle holder or cake stand or cupcake stand.

And back in Dec. I made a cloche from an old vase and other junk stuff.

I Had One Before Anthropologie!

Earlier this month I went to http://www.anthropologie.com/ to look around for some inspiration and this little wise guy was looking at me I did a double take and oh yeah thats my owl! Well sort of, its like the one I have.

And this is mine, an Owl cookie jar from the Shawnee Pottery from the 40's and 50's a company from Zanesville, Ohio. the company closed in 1961 so someone somewhere got the mold or recreated it!

Theirs looks more green were mine is gray.

They even made salt and pepper shakers and these can be found in a lot of antique shops.

I collect Shawnee Pottery and have several cookie jars, pitchers, tea pots, vases, planters, and salt & pepper shakers.

Vintage Me - 50 Years Ago

I have to share this pic my sister posted on facebook of me and my 2 cousins! I am on the right hugging my teddy bear! Which I still have along with the baby carriage that is behind me and the dress I am wearing. Some of the glass balls on the tree are in my collection too.
Other things in the photo I treasure is the memories I have when I see cedar trees and how my grandpa would go down to the meadow to cut one down, sometimes riding a horse down to get one! Love that wallpaper and do you see my grandpas tie hanging on the cat rack beside the door! and the great fabric that covered the furniture in those days!

Old Winter Scaves Into Bows

I seen this in an antique mall in Lancaster PA several years ago and I made some and thought I would share. I wanted to do more photos of how to do this but it is so easy. Find an used winter scarf of your liking and cut it in half lengthwise. Make 2 bunny ears, cross one ear over the other and back thru the crossover hole. Tighten the knot and adjusting the size of the bow. It is so simple but I sometimes can't explain it to well, if you don't understand let me know and I will give a better explanation with photos.
I like the wones that are wool-like, You can then hot glue or wire it to your project.

Even though Christmas is over you can still add these to warm your home! Maybe that Chirstmas wreath could use a new look for the winter, so take off the Christmas bow and add one of these.

One of my Old Coat Bears has a matching scarf with a button from the coat added to it.

He likes his plain white bow too!

Last year I made these trees from old paperback books, this year I added glitter to them and a rusty star to the top.

I used a vintage frame when I did our photo for our Christmas card.

I have seen it done lots of times so I just added my own twist.

Although, I am happy with the way it turned out, probably won't ever do a christmas card again.

Sweater Frames

As soon as I saw this on The Farmer's Wife blog I knew I was going to be making one!

Attached a piece of an old sweater on a cardboard cut to fit the frame, used a spray on glue. Then added this ornament with hot glue. I added an ols button to the center.

What is so nice about this project is if you wanted to make it more sentimental, use a sweater fro someones childhood and attach a pair of their out grown mittens.

Also, it is easy to find a color that matches your living room colors and lots of different things can be added to make it interesting.

Well I actually made two......

Snowglobe Cloche

I found this great glass vase at a thrift store for a dollar, I went to my box of snowmen and selected one and got out my fake snow. I taped the snowman to the bottom of the wooden green box and put some snow in the glass cloche and turned the box upside down to get the snowman in the cloche then flipped it right side up. Some of the snow stayed on the glass sides and now looks like a snow globe with NO water added!

To make the glass vase into a cloche I used 6000 glue to add the porceline ring and a 1/2 of a small glass container. I think it was a small candle at one time with a lid.

Christmas Ball Wreath

Everyone in the junkin world has seen these already, but it took me a while to find balls cheap enough and all at one place to make the wreath, I wanted to do it multi colored but I found these balls and was hoping to have enough to make a wreath.

I used an old wire wreath form and covered it with gold garlaand from a dollar store, then hot glued the balls in place, I started from the inside, some directions say to start from the out side edge.

My Daughters First Project

But anyway this is my daughters first project, I got a bag of dresses for her at a thrift sale and with her 5 dollar sewing machine I gave her, waalaa! A couple of weeks ago my daughter told me about this website how a 27 year old girl is doing a new dress a day with old dresses she finds at thrift stores and yard sales and has a blog called 365 days,365 items of clothing for 365 dollars, http://www.newdressaday.com/ So a look through my closet I found this blouse I haven't worn for years, it was dingy yellow and the facings from the button front always hung open. I decided to redo it. Firts I cut off the sleeves, sewn down those pesty facings and cut it a v-neck and doubled it over and sewn it down. I was thinking of dyeing it as that is what the girl from the blog does but a soak in oxy clean made it white again. This is a before picture.....

Canning Jar Wreath Continued

Just some random found objects that I have had waiting for the right project. I was thinking of selling it on Esty but have decided to keep it. There was actually other things I was going to put on etsy but never got around to it this summer.

Canning Jar Lid Wreath

I haves seen these a couple of times here on the WWW and I knew I wanted to make one. I had some but needed more, I got some from my Mom and then one day I found some at a yard sale so I bout them, The lady said as I was leaving "Happy Canning" little did she know...

Held together with a heavy wire and twisted tight to keep the lids in a circle.
Not quite as rusty as I would like, I could let them outside so they could rust up more.
But I decided to do more to it, I will post the other pics later, but for now,

Christmas in July - Button Tags

I did these last year, right after Christmas, for gift tags but could be used for ornaments. Some are made from old christmas cards. The snowman one could be put on lots of old stuff like spools, tin pieces, or dominoes! Buttons, fabric, glitter!!!

Stirrup Photo Holder

You might remember the stirrup from my Mom's birthday party that held the napkins, now it holds a special memory for her from her party. A photo of her riding a horse for her 8oth birthday. It is mounted on card stock and had another photo on the other side.

Corky Cooler Lamp

I had this idea for a long time, I'm sure I saw something like it years ago, it took me awhile to find the right thermal jug, like a one we had when I was a kid but i think ours was turquoise top. Well anyway, I think I found it 2 years ago, then I found a lampshade added cork pieces from a coaster around the edge. Then I decided to paint the burlap top, the first time I did not like it so it sat in the basement for another year. I bought new paint last week and repainted the shade. I t would look nice in a screened in porch or maybe someones tree house!! Well for now, It will just sit around looking pretty and maybe sometime will take it to our camper.

What is nice about this jug was the metal top that could be drilled into and the lamp kit fastened to it. And maybe some day it can be just a jug again and something can cover up the hole.

Captured Fairy Jar

I am participating in some swaps at www.swap-bot.com this summer. A way to create and share my artwork with others. This was a Captured Creature Bottle/Jar Swap and the person I made it for liked to read Urban Romance Fantasy books. I knew absolutely nothing about them, so with a little research of her favorite authors and some image searches I came up with this! Everything was just junk I have collected, that most people throw away.
It was hard to photograph with the glass of an old mayo jar, other junk I used was onion netting, craft netting, old book pages and phrases, key, beads jewelry pieces feather and so on!!

Inside the flower an old faceted prism that was a ring, it is hard to see because it matches the flower perfectly.

The lady that recieved it said she loved it!
That makes me happy!!

Corbel Book Shelf

I know many have seen a corbel used as a shelf before but I did something a little different, I used a used book for the shelf, it is screwed onto the corbel.

I found the corbel first and then the hunt for the right size and color book, I really lucked out with this 25 cent book at a thrift shop.

The corbel just needed some cleaning.

I gave the technical side of the project to my husband, he measured twice, drew a line and screwed the book down. I wanted the screws not to show so we opened the book up first.

I forgot to take picture of the back but I added 2 saw teeth hangers on the corbel.

The Stop and Smell the Flowers framed embroidery came from the "Cutest Thrift Store on the Block" for 99 cents!

The camera, an oldie I had for a while, and the whole little arrangement

incorporates what I like to do, photography.

Cutest Thrift Store On The Block

This thrift store is in Bellefonte PA and is close to where we go camping. This weekend while we were at a car show that is going on in the town, we went in to cool off, well that is what I told my husband. I was in a couple of months ago and new I would come back and bring the camera. So upon entering I asked permission to take some pics, this place is amazingly decorated, at least the front, the back is just typical thrift store. So enjoy!

Old Photos Used For Cake and Cupcakes and Invitations

First was the invitations, using an old photo of my Mom when she was about 16. This was created at http://www.vistiprint.com/ but many sites offer printing cards and invitations.

One of the first entries in my blog was about this camera made into a photo holder, I did remake the wire holders with better wire.

The cake, which I made myself, also used and old photo which was made into an edible image by http://www.gogocake.com/. I sent them the photo via the Internet and they sent me the product and directions which anyone can do. One thing I want to tell you about is I actually took a macro photo of the old photo so I could have it large enough for the cake, because the scanner I have did not scan it large enough for them to get a good image from it.

Now for the cupcakes, the photos were scanned and in a printshop program I made them into little circles and cut other circles out of old pages from an old paperback book, the back paper was just scrapbook paper I had from another project. The three circles gradually got bigger and were glued together with 2 toothpicks taped to the back.

The Birthday Banner

At first glance this looks brand new, but I used some old elements for the banner. I did use a printshop program for the letters. Some card stock I had for a long time, old pages from books, maps, music, dictionary pages. Also, tthey were held together by old lace and ribbons I have had for years!

Moms Party - Vintage Style

My mom turned 80 years old today but the party was Sunday, and the food was served up vintage style the way she lived thru the years.

Mints in a tin cup

Flowers my sister brought from her garden

The center flowers are from my SIL garden

Clothes pin labeled the food for ease of our helpers to get it ready for the guests.

BBQ served in a small roaster.

A vintage Shawnee planter with flowers

The ever popular mini chalkboard labels, rolls were kept in a granite blancher

The picnic basket ready for the ham salad sandwiches.

An old cardboard container that we think was used for ice cream, today we used it for pretzels.

McCoy flower pot to hold the plastic ware.

A stirrup held the napkins, with her favorite colors blue and brown.

I blogged about this a few weeks ago, holding cupcakes adorned with a brown pair of ladies gloves and a tag that reads "eat cake" The party also had a Horse Theme, the little cupcake toppers I made from copies of old photos of her with her horse when she was 16.

Chips in a red and white granite pan, and another thing I blogged about a couple of weeks ago held the veggies! Varies other containers held dips. I think I forgot some photos, I might do another blog post later Happy Birthday Mom!

I included the photo I found on the internet where I got the idea. I think they would be cute made into a garland or banner spelling out MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Tin Thing Do Over

Found this tin piece at GW, it is not old don't know what it was used for, maybe as a gift holder of stuff for you bath or body! Well anyway I liked it and didn;t know what I was going to do with it, untill now. I used the button garland to put around the rim, added a cattle tag and some more buttons and stenciled some letters around the side.

Added a glass serving dish, walaa a great way to serve something, cookies, veggie tray or whatever!

A microwave plate or glass turntable will work.

Although cupcakes will look better, I used this cake for photo purposes! Hmm, looks like cupcakes will fit around the cake!

? What Was It ?

Not sure what this was or even what it will be, all I know is that I like it! Found it at a flea market, thought it might be something you put in a pot for canning fruits and vegetables, but I don't think it was that. Maybe something to put in a roaster? Well anyway, I liked it the way it was but I wanted to do something to it, so for a quick redo I wrapped it with fabric that was torn in strips, and wound it around the frame.
Added - It is about 12 inches in diameter

So, does anyone know what it is or what it could become?

Oh yeah, it is finished, I accidentally erased the finished photo! The one idea I have for it is adding a large plate and serve cupcakes on it for an upcoming party!

Bird Cage

I got this old birdcage a couple of years ago,spray painted it an off white. I had candles in it first and was in the wreck room where no one saw it. Over the holidays I took out the candles dusted it off and was wondering what I could put in it next. My daughter had this cute bird she got at the Dollar General store and thought a green one would be the color I would like. So after I got one I immediately thought of the birdcage. The idea looked better in my head that in real life but thought it would be OK for now. I'll need to change it around someday!

Here is my favorite part of the cage, I added an old covered button for a little door knob!

Button Garland

No Jill and I didn't try this, I was ready and waiting for her to post JUNKLE BELLS and to my surprise she had a garland project too!!

All you need for mine is buttons and 24 guage wire. I choose white buttons cause I have alot of them, but any color would be fine.

First I cut a bunch of the wire about 6 to 8 inches long.

Then you thread the one end throught a hole and bend it to go back down the other hole.

And twist the end around the other wire.

I did all the ones that I had the wire cut.

Then to make the garland I just lokked for a good place and twisted it around another button wire.

Then folded the wire up and added another button on the other end of the wire.

And continued this till you get as long of a piece of garland as you need.

But, you don't have to use it on your tree add it to anything, it tucks in any nook and cranny!

Since I had a tree still hangin around I added it to it!

Need a Pencil ?

I had most of the pencils laying in a drawer at home but didn't have enough so I got some from my Mom.
Hot glued them to a back of a paint stirring stick, I added the wire to hang it with first and had to cut off the end of the stick cause I didn't want to find more pencils!

I added a Smiley Pin, I wanted it so if I find another button or pin I could change it out so I glued a magnet to the pencils and to the pin back. So now I can change it or if I want to wear the pin!

I must admit this idea came from another blog on my list at the right, Round Barn Potting Company. I have an unlimited supply of pickle jars!! So I used this to hold some of my junk stuff till I am ready to put them to use in another project. I did this over the holiday break.

Since I have been busy latley I haven't had the time to create something new, but a new Magazine called Flea Market Style came out It inspired me to use some of my junk in just decorating! Link also to the right.

The old glass globe below is a fav of mine and I am waiting to find just the right idea to make it special, it currently has a candle in it but doesn't show uo due to the flash.

The fan Ibought last summer for 1 dollar! An old part of a book wrapped in twine and an old paperback book folded into a tree, I made some of these around Christmas time, I have plans to add a rusty star to the top and spray with glitter, for next year.

In the magazine, if you seen one the folded pages of the book could be put to good use, a later blog post!!!

Canning Jar Lights

We did this years ago in our family room downstairs. fashioned after Hoss's Restaurants. Pie pans tin punched around the edges, the wide mouth caning jar rings were riveted onto the pans around a hole. I am not sure how my husband fastened it to the ceiling, but I do know you just need to unscrew the jar to change the light bulb. You do need to know about electrical work to do this project or hire someone who does!

Our new tree, an artificial German twig tree, filled with a lot of my handmade ornaments some ornaments that were gifts, chandilier prisms and some new gold and brown balls. Tree skirt is Granpas old wool blanket.

The Ornament I Recieved

The ornament I recieved from the Junk Revelution website is this very clever light bulb with a dish detergent lid on the bottom. It was made by momlvcntrt. The covering is a single ply napkin decopaged over the lightbulb.

A lovely way to make junk beautiful and useful again.

Masher Christmas

I painted these years ago, potato mashers into a Santa and a snowman. they usually sit on my windowsill in the kitchen, but moved them for the pics. The snowman's hat is made from an old sweater, it has faded over the years, it also has a wire in the top to keep the hat flowing. the little Santa on the arm of the snowman is a fishing sinker painted as a Santa. They also can hold paper napkins for something fun.

Junk Ornament Exchange

Over on the Junk revolution website I joined fellow junkers in a junk ornament exchange. I sent my ornaments I made to "Diane in the Valley" she received them and so I am going to share the pics that I took before sending them to her.

The first one here is an angel made from a Christmas bulb, a crystal, old jewelry ring and a insert for a cookie press plus vintage lace and button.

The second one is a wreath, I glued random junk on a large washer, an old key placed just right so there would be a place for the wire hanger.

Here is a closer view of them both.

Yeah, my first Name is Debra, never really go by Debbie but I thought this would be fun, a book about Debbie Reynolds, a lot of Debs are around 50 something due to Debbie Reynolds.

The buttons are due to a mistake, I first drilled the holes to close to the front. I couldn't find the website when I wanted to do this project, so I winged it. Well anyway, I used the buttons to hide the holes, I also used the lace to hide the other gold lettering about the book.

Would make a fun gift for the junker in your family, if you can find a special book would be an extra special touch.

I made this after seeing it on the Gorilla Glue website, I believe Sue Whitney and Ki Nassauer have it also on their websites/blogs. I was trying to find a link but could not, sorry. It is very easy to do. I put my own little twist on it with the star on top, with words torn out of an old book.

Ghoul in a Jar, recycle a gallon jar into a mad scientist experiment!!! Add a spooky old mask and some colored water, some Spanish moss other random leaves and silk flowers. Make sure the lid is on tight and add a cover made of tea or coffee stained muslin tied haphazardly and WaLa!

Silverware Keeper

I guess that is what it is called, well anyway I re-did this a long time ago and I really like how it turned out. The problem is I would like to use it in another manor do you have any suggestions?
It was a plain wood tray that I painted and antiquedit added wood drawer pulls for legs and metal drawer pulls for handles. This also was my first try at mosaics, I used old state plates.

So again, does anyone have any suggestions on how I could use this, besides silverware?

Button Swap

I participated in a Button Jewelry Swap and here are the things I made and sent to Melissa in Canada. I found out about it from the Button Floozies blogspot and was started by http://incywincytogs.blogspot.com/
The earrings were fairly easy, using blue buttons and a recycled filigree pieces from a old necklace, everything else was new.

The next two pics are of the button bracelet, I created on an old white zipper it has an elastic loop closure.

The next piece is a button brooch using another white zipper as a flower shaped base with three buttons stacked on top.

And the last piece is just one large olive colored button with a silver bail glued on and a nifty new black necklace kit.

It was a lot of fun, thinking what to make for this, and creating these items for Melissa. Here blog is www.mistuk.blogspot.com She also introduced me to www.swap-bot.com so there may be more swapping in the future.

Old Frame

Finally, I am back to updating junkinjane! Been busy since going back to work, getting a new computer. I need to take some more pictures though. I also participated in my first swap and will be posting about that soon.

Here is a quick project I put in my home recently, an old frame I bought for a buck at a public sale a couple of years ago. I toned down the gold paint by making a wash of brown craft paint and water. Made a template of the frame and placed the grad pics of the kids on it marked it and then placed the template on the wall to put in the nails.

My Sisterhood Junk

So far I used 2 of the pieces I choose from took Sisterhood of the traveling junk box.

I added it to a piece I had.

I had this peg board that was made out of an old drawer front I made a couple of years ago, with old doorknobs and old coat hook I made some stars out of rusty tin from a craft store.

The second piece I used to add interest to a nail keg I recently brought into the living room after being outside. I cleaned it up and sprayed with a clear sealer, added cheesecloth that was coffee stained.

This teddy bear, I also made from something used, do you know what?

Sisterhood of the Traveling Junk - My Fun

I was in the group of 12 who signed up for the Sisterhood of the Traveling Junk from the Junk Revolution Community. I was the 6th person to get the box! And this is the fun stuff I got to choose from.....

Bottle Caps - cute and colorful I was actually thinking of putting some of them into the box when it was my turn.

A Metal Butterfly - would make great angle wings, I have some similar.

A Water Nozzle- my first thought that this could be used as a ring holder.

Buttons and Embroidery - I love buttons and have some vintage fabric items.

Musical Pieces - would make a good clip to hold notes or recipes

Shoe Taps - This is one I was thinking of taking but just wasn't sure what to do with them.

N - I love letters just as much as numbers

Door Plate and Building - A door plate was another thing I thought I could possibly add to the box and the building I also thought of making a ring holder.

? Metal Thing ? - No one seems to know what it is! but I still was thinking of taking it. I thought it might make a good candle holder.

Tiny Metal Cars - I was tempted to take these also! My last name was a name of an old car!

I wonder what hey are from?

Numbered Nails ? - I would have made some kind of a peg board out of them.

Originally I was going to add a spice tin and put items of interest into it, but it was so full when I got the box that I decided on the prisms.

It sure was a fun experiment, and would do it again but I will sit the next one out so others can have fun!!

Old Mirror Makeover

I got this mirror from my SIL, it was her mothers. I just wanted, to do something a little different with it, but not permanently. So, I decides to find a vinyl decal to add to it. I first wanted just a word like Imagine or Dream but decided to go with P the initial of my last name.

I found one on Etsy. It is gold in color.

Time For Tea

Here is a simple and fun project. It is a take on the garden totems people have been making. A great way to use a teapot with no lid! The bottom is just a saucer, then the teapot, an inverted bowl, another small saucer, and the last is a cup. The cup is from an old potpourri burner. Then I added the lace bow and a spoon and a vintage pin, silk daisy and a candle,( I only had green) white would be best.

Laundry Room

It took me a long time to find the right cabinet to put above the washer and dryer, then it took me a long time to get around repaint it and the laundry room. I should have taken a close up to see the chippy paint and I did a wash of green paint. The curtains hanging under it are recycles from my daughters dorm room and they hide the hose connections.

I collect vintage hankies and strung up a line like a wallpaper border to display them, I need to find some more tiny clothes pins so I can hang more.

This is also in the laundry room, the shutter is actually three shutters screwed together and it hides the electrical panel and can be easily taken down when needed. The little slip is actually mine when I was a baby.

My Friend's Shabby Quilt

While I was camping at the beach, my friend Rhonda showed me a quilt she made a couple of years ago. I instantly fell in love with it and how it is made!

Sewing circles on a square then cutting the square in quarters, putting them all in a bag and randomly pulling them out and sewing them into a square again! Love the frayed edges!

Then she had it machine quilted.

Table Redo

Early summer I found these two tables at a yard sale for $2.00 a piece, had to have them to redo. One is missing the table top and I will let my daughters boyfriend have that one to redo. He works part time for a wood worker who make furniture out of old wood. I did the other table!

I forgot to take during photos but it was an easy project. I primed all the would I was going to paint and painted it a linen white. We had the paint when my daughter painted her bedroom furniture. Then used craft paint (raw umber) and some water to make a glaze to antique it.

Added music paper from an old booklet, using mod podge. I did the edges first, trimmed and sanded then did the top. I trimmed and sanded the edges again.

I removed the old knob and added a wooden one that I painted black.

The music pages I tore the edges before gluing them down. I saved one sheet with a cool title to add as my last piece for interest, Moon Mist!

It was a fun project, I took it to my Mom's yard sale but did not sell it, had some lookers, I believe it is too different an item for yard sale goers, but I did sell my quilted window shelf I had in an earlier post and one of my yardstick stars.

I Found These Dogs

I found these dogs at a yard sale recently! Only $1.00 for all! But I have never seen dogs like these before, are they plaster, chalk? not sure just that they are shabby and can be very chic. I want to clean them up some, and find some cloches or make some. Any other ideas are appreciated.

The biggest one I will be keeping, the rest I will sell either on etsy or a yard sale. I checked on ebay to find any similar and had no luck.

Measuring Stars

Here is another star from a measuring device, a folding ruler. This one is made of metal. I took off the fist an last section of the tape measure so the sections were all the same size. Folded it in a star shape and pop riveted the ends together and glued at each point.

Kitchen Platter

This is a old platter that I made into a kitchen sign over my stove top. Kuche is German for kitchen, as I am of German decent. Everyone has seen Bon Appetit (not sure of the spelling) the French for good eats I think. I looked up many words on an Internet translator to find a word that related to the kitchen and also looked good. I then played on the computer with a print shop to find a font I liked and printed it in reverse. I had the platter and paint ready to go and as soon as it was done printing on regular paper I placed it on he platter and with the back of a spoon rubbed on the ink to make a guide line for me to then paint it on the platter.

I also got other German phrases to put on as a border above the cabinets this one says Eat Cookies! In case anyone is wondering the backsplash is that very textured wall paper that I thought looked like tin cieling and I painted it a copper color.

And this one is Drink Milk!

One other little tidbit, the milk bottles are filled with salt, to make it look like milk, so much better than the little Styrofoam beads I see people use.

Numerous Stars

Some of you may remember that I won the bag from Junk Revolution back in March. This was my first purchase when I went our to a local flea market. Yardsticks, frame and clock face! I still need to find something to do with the clock. In this post I'll show you what I did with the Yard sticks and the other ones my dad gave me. In a later post, the frame.

Stars

I saw these stars somewhere on a blog before I started this blog, When I was ready to make one I couldn't find it, so I figured it out on my own.

First, you need 5 yardsticks, I drilled holes in the end, one of the yardsticks had a hole in it so I just drilled all the holes at the same space, about 1/2 inch from the end. Then you need to arrange them into the star shape, then you'll need to weave one end over and one end under the next one. Then get some wire and twist and curl or however you want to do, it is fun and fast project. The smaller one was made out of some yardsticks that were damaged, so I cut them off, at the same length. Since I made these I found another way to use the damaged ones that are cut at different lengths, I will make another post about that later.

Silver Platter Up-cycle

I recently bought this at a yard sale, crepe paper steamers and a silver platter.

( I'll be posting the crepe paper on etsy!)

And I turned it into a magnet photo holder or it could be used for a memo holder, too!

I drilled holes in the platter and added black ribbon t hang it.
Then, I used old buttons and added magnets to the back, yes even the magnets are recycled. I use random pieces of magnets from business cards and calendars.

I also added matching ribbon to the button.

It sure looks nicer than hanging photos on your fridge!

This is some stuff I recently got at yard sales or thrift shops. A huge wood candle stand I plan to redo that in some way, any ideas? The frame will turn into a chalkboard. Other items, door knobs, finials, sheet music, potato masher and the old Christmas lights were free from a thrift store, I had seen something to do with these but I can't remember, If anyone has any ideas let me know!

Here is another project I did last year, claw foot bathtub legs and a wood board I got at a public sale. I needed a small table to put the TV on and it worked out perfectly.

An old window frame no glass and a quilted pillow case found at a goodwill store, I added a shelf and pegs. I started this project a while ago, before I blogged and I didn't take any before pictues. I still want to add something to this and will have more about it in a later post.

This is my current avatar, an old plate and a ceramic candle holder made in to a more glamorous and larger candle stand. It can also hold a cake or cupcakes!!

When first saw these type of cake plates being made the instructions said to get a ceramic drill bit and to drill holes in the plate. I did not want to do that so I thought of a way to add the beads. My solution was to glue a hook from my sewing supplies and then I could just loop the beads onto it. So you can take it off to wash it!

The beads are just strung on white string.

Vinyl Record Bowl

I posted this the other day on Junk Revolution Community forums, so for the record I will add it to my blog!! haha!! I know this has been done before but it is so much fun. I found some records for 10 cents and decided to try one. Othe places on the web have directions and it is so easy, Place record over glass bowl and place on cookie sheet, in a 150 degree oven for about 10 minutes maybe a little less. This is the shape it melted into. Some of the directions said you can shape them when they start to melt. After they are in the shape you desire let cool for 10 minutes and take them off the bowl. It will be cool and hold its shape. This is an old 33 rpm and it would look pretty cool holding candy, peanuts, or how about holding a man's change from his pockets. Any other ideas?

Western Wreath

I made this a couple of years ago after seeing something similar at an antique mall. I also call this a memory wreath because most of the items were mine when I was younger, when we had horses.

I had a bunch of these horse fiqurines on my dresser as a child.

A curry comb used to brush out horses mane and tail.

A post card I wish it were me! I should really find a photo of me on my horse and put it here.

My old belt, I am so glad I kept it all these years!

Here it is on the wall along with a Dr. Pepper sign, the reason for the colors I choose.

Cowboy Boot Door Arrangement

Here is a fun easy project, grab a boot or two arrange flowers in then and hang or your door! The other one I made up and gave to my sisiter, I got the boots at a thrift store.

Photo Collage Frame

I know you all have seen these before, but I wanted to share my version.

I found this old frame and it just screamed that it wanted to hold my photos I recieve from friends and family. I used a heavy piece of cardboard covered it first with quilt batting and then with the red fabric. I went to my trim stash and pulled out all my black stuff, ribbon, ric rac, pufffy yarn and criss crossed and overlaping.

Added a variety of black buttons It is kinda cool even with out the photos! Underneath is a hymnal rack I found at an antique mall somewhere on our travels, added other fun stuff in red and blue.

Window Collage

I made 6 collages and put then in the Window panes. The old photos are all relatives, I am in the pane that says pink, my Mom and Dad are above me them my grandma and her little brother, my Aunt and Uncle and below them is my Great Aunt and the last one is unknown, but it was in a bunch of family photos from my grandfathers estate. The little girl is holding a cat.

Vintage Wreath

I took a grapevine wreath and decorated it with vintage items you might find in your ancestors bedroom. Gloves, hankie, pearls, cameo pin, old photo and a cloth purse along with ribbon, lace and silk flowers to coordinate with my bedroom. Everything is tied or wired on so I can remove it without damage, except for the lace and flowers.

I'll have another one a little different, coming in the future.
